We
are glad you are here and hope your child enjoys her/his visit as
much as
we
will enjoy them!
The following is meant to “orient” the parents of our patients to
our office. The practice is divided into two parts:
A) The general practice of pediatrics, which consists of my
private pediatric patients to whom I deliver routine pediatric
care.
B) Our subspecialty practice in which we see patients in
consultation for other physicians with complex pediatric problems
and with problems for which we have received additional training:
Infectious Diseases, Rheumatology, and Immunology.
As a general rule we cannot accept consult patients into our
general pediatric practice.
Scheduling Appointments
We make every effort to see all
sick patients the same day, please call as early in the day as
possible. Well Child Visits (or “Physicals”) are seen by
appointment ahead of time.
After Hours
The easiest way to get help after
hours is to call the answering service (480-5938). It is often
better to deal with small problems while they are small problems.
Also, a phone call after hours can usually prevent the time and
expense of a visit to an Emergency Care Center or an Urgent Care
Facility.
Labs
Often complicated labs need to be
ordered. We deal with a wide variety of laboratory facilities. We
order the correct studies performed to benefit your child, at a
minimum of pain and expense and have the results available as soon
as they are practical. We then explain these results, making any
further diagnostic and therapeutic plans as indicated.
Referrals
When necessary, we refer to other
specialists who we have confidence in their medical abilities and
trust their advice, often there are many good choices.
Pre-authorizations
These are very difficult matters
and require your cooperation, assistance, and ultimately are your
responsibility. We will do whatever we can do to assist you.
Medications
As a general rule, antibiotics
are not prescribed over the phone. When calling, remember to look
up the pharmacy phone numbers in advance.
Newborns
We have standing orders for
Newborns @ Parkview, Lutheran, St Joe, Dupont, and Dekalb
Hospitals. You need only inform the nursing staff and we will be
contacted. You are encouraged to make a free Prenatal Consult to
review the postnatal period and have your questions answered.
Students
Students are an integral part of our practice. Our practice offers
a unique learning environment for students to see the complexity
as well as the normality of pediatric patients. If for any reason
at all that you which not to have a student examine your child,
Please do not hesitate to let us know. WE respect your feelings.
Disappointed?
Please tell
whomever you are comfortable with if your experience did not meet
your expectations.
